Riverside County EMD Service Vehicle

February 14, 2022

On May 20, 2021, Riverside County Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) Communications Reserve members participated in the annual Radio Rodeo at Ben Clark Training Center in Riverside. Participants practiced setting up their Communications trailer, using the Winlink messaging system, demonstrated video capabilities, and received/transmitted messages. They had the opportunity to work alongside various agencies, including the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Riverside.

RACES volunteer operators are:

  • Licensed Radio Amateurs
  • Able to communicate on Amateur Radio frequencies during drills, exercises and emergencies
  • Activated by local, county and state jurisdictions and are the only Amateur Radio operators authorized to transmit during declared emergencies when the President of the United States specifically invokes the War Powers Act.
