Happy Nurse's Week!
May 9, 2024
In honor of Nurse’s Week, the Emergency Management Department celebrates Jan Merrick.
Jan completed her training in Nebraska, graduated as an LVN at 18, and kept her license 40 years later. She has worked in pediatrics and the emergency department for most of her career. In the last five years, she has transitioned into her current position as an Emergency Services Coordinator for the Emergency Management Department.
Jan’s responsibilities include a lead role in the Riverside County Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) and local Healthcare Coalition (HCC). She ensures the revision and evaluation of multiple HCC hospital agreements, preparedness, and surge plans, as well as continuous collaboration with surrounding counties’ HPPs to prepare for, respond to, and recover from all types of threats and emergencies. She also leads several different drills, trainings, and exercises that prepare HCC members, department personnel, and the community to handle real emergencies. You may see Jan on any day conducting mask Fit Testing, Stop the Bleed training, or even performing moulage for medical training scenarios.
Thank you for the work you do for the Riverside County residents. You make the difference!
