September is designated National Preparedness Month -- a time to take a look at how well you, your family and your workplace are prepared for disasters.
Hurricanes Harvey and Irene are reminders to be prepared for anything. There are some disasters that cause unavoidable damage. Your preparedness will reduce damage and will make you more resilient. In the end, you will return to some sense of normalcy faster.
During National Preparedness Month, we will offer tips and suggestions on how you can be better prepared for disaster. Each week has a theme. In addition, we will be setting up a booth in different parts of the county to provide valuable preparedness tips and items to kick start your emergency kit.
The theme for September 1-9 is "Make a Plan for Yourself, Family and Friends." Looking at the evacuations taking place in East Texas, how would you let your family know you are safe? What would you take with you? Do you have copies of your important documents, such as prescriptions, insurance policies and important records?
