Do you know CPR? One of the biggest things that prevents people from learning and performing CPR is fear that CPR is too complex to learn and concern about making mouth-to-mouth contact. Years of data has resulted in proof that quick initiation of “hands-only” CPR saves lives. Gone are the days of trying to remember different compression ratios for various age groups.
CPR Week was celebrated during the week of June 1st through June 7th and saw a handful of events intended to share the simple and easy hand-only CPR technique. County of Riverside’s Emergency Management Department set up a booth in the parking lot of their Riverside headquarters, which is also home to a handful of other businesses and shops. People were typically hesitant at first but most expressed amazement at how simple the process is. There are just two steps; 1) Call 9 1 1 and 2) Push hard and fast in the center of the chest (pushing the chest to the rhythm of the popular song “Stayin’ Alive” is an easy to ensure the proper rate of compressions. Special thanks to our public safety partners at AMR ambulance for joining us and providing knowledgeable EMTs and Paramedics to help show how easy hands-only CPR is.
With approximately 300,000 sudden cardiac arrests annually in the US and 80% of those occurring at home, doesn’t it make sense to learn CPR today? The life you safe may be someone you know.
